Bodies Love Rhythm

My journey into the fluid body…

JAQS CLARKE PhD

When we deeply pause, the body state softens into an ambient calm in which the subtle ordering bio-rhythmic dynamism of our living presence surfaces in our consciousness. Bodies crave a slowing rhythm, as it is the homing language of our organism. Slowing rhythm is a natural orientation towards regeneration, to reset and recharge. The counter-force to the active and striving body, the fluid body yields, surrenders, floats and releases. Within buoyancy, we momentarily escape gravity and enter weightlessness, timelessness, and spaciousness. Our minds let go into this vaster consciousness because the gentle rocking motion that underpins buoyancy gives the mind all the safety signals it seeks.

The body is a tidal field of fluid motion that generates rhythm in our cells, organs, connective tissue, muscles, and even the bones. The various rhythms work in synchrony with each other. Each organ, muscle and bone has its own rhythm pattern that contributes towards the greater dynamism of the whole body. Perceiving internal rhythms is interoception, our ability to attune to our inner state.

We reorder chaos through gentle wave action, whether it is our breath, the ocean we are floating on, or our mother’s walking pattern in-vitro. The fluid body is the internal tidal fluid in full coherence. We can attune to this state anytime, anywhere—because we are fluid. We don't need to be in water to experience buoyancy, it’s a state of mind informed by the body itself.

My journey into the fluid body began as I started researching, through my PhD In Architecture, a wide arc of themes around waves, rhythms and frequencies, what I now call biorhythmia, initially in urban fluid dynamics. That project stirred a parallel personal enquiry into less headiness and more self-presencing and embodiment. I had an unconscious freeze-trauma pattern in my body and suffered from anxiety and frequent migraines. For me, the fluid body has been my portal to embodiment. It’s the moment-by-moment experience of becoming present and receptive to my own beingness.

While training as bio-dynamic craniosacral therapists (CST), we learn to listen to the subtle body tidal rhythms within the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The beauty and potency of CST as a modality is its orientation towards health, not pathology. The rhythms in the CSF hydrate the brain and the skeletal system. These tidal rivers are the life force of the inner world, just like any river, bringing vitality to its regions. We can relax into coherence, or sense when it begins to ebb, but the fluid body holds the reset.

We learn to attune toward stillpoints that exist below the flux. We observe within stillpoint, a very fine trembling and a switch that ignites a deeper rhythmic sequence. Our hands become the receiver and transmuters of the electromagnetic frequencies held in the quantum body, that catalysed our embryological development since inception. The quieter or more subtle the rhythm the more ordering frequency it carries. The quantum body holds the memory key and blueprint of our optimum health signature. As the whole body surrenders to the still point, the optimising frequencies flood the tidal field and the resetting of rhythms begin. This is the innate regenerative dynamism that is our body's fluid intelligence.

We are oceanic, and our tides dissolve not only tissues and clots but also emotions, feelings, and psychic blocks. For many people with psychic and emotional trauma, the soft, fluid embodiment is the antithesis to bracing and defending oneself against pain. The wave rhythms generate advancing and retreating dynamics, that slow the stream so the body can metabolise emotion without flooding. The rhythmic coherence in the fluids radiate out into the connective tissue or fascia and stabilise the emotions by slowing the expression into waves of feeling and release. Similarly, the fluids can also help restore distorted postural patterning in bones, muscles and connective tissue back to the original symmetry through subtle rhythms. Bodies love rhythm because it’s the catalyst for release and renewal.

I found BCST to be potent, healing and calming from the outset, yet I felt more energised and focused after a session. Encountering the fluid body brought healing in waves and the release of my own frozen, disassociated soma. BCST has given me the resources to find inner safety, learn self-regulation tools to restore my nervous system, integrate emotional memories and experience increasing degrees of well-being through embodiment. I am very much alive to my healing process and continue to explore and expand my capacity for well-being, calm, and vitality.
